Dear Dr. Tillich (Details anzeigen):

In behalf of the Program Committee of the American Psychopathological Association, I would like to extend to you an invitation to participate in the Symposium on „Anxiety“ to be held June 3rd and 4th at the Hotel Commodore here in New York City (Details anzeigen). The program is divided into four sessions: clinical aspects of anxiety, physiological aspects of anxiety, social-anthropological aspects of anxiety, and with the experimental approach. We would like to have you discuss the following topic:„Anxiety-Reducing Agencies in Our Culture.“ The general thesis of this talk might be aimed at pointing out how society attempts to organize institutions such as marriage, religion, and customs and more which are intended to reduce the natural sources of anxiety, and to indicate to what extend these institutions succeed in their general purpose. While this thesis is what the Committee would like to have you discuss, you are, of course, free to propose any other special aspect of the problem that might appeal to you. These papers should be approximately forty-five minutes in length.

The previous symposia have been published and we are planning to publish this one too, together with the discussion that arises during the course of this meeting. Would you kindly let us know whether or not you can participate in this symposium at your earliest convenience?

Thank you very much.
