Dear Mr. Tillich (Details anzeigen):

Some of the former students of Dr. Leo Baeck (Details anzeigen), have felt that his visit to Chicago (Details anzeigen) would be an appropriate time for academic honors, if former German scholars, like yourself, felt that his academic achievements entitled him to such honors.

I discussed the matter with President Ernest Colwell (Details anzeigen) of the University of Chicago (Details anzeigen), and out of the suggestion came a plan that I write to yourself and some of the other men, who we thought knew Dr. Baeck (Details anzeigen) and his work.

You will recall that while you were still at home Dr. Baeck (Details anzeigen) was teaching at the Hochschule in Berlin (Details anzeigen). Of course when the plague came into Germany (Details anzeigen), he, like others, was put in the concentration camp, from which he was fortunately rescued by the American army.

|: I am not but Adolph (Details anzeigen) may know somebody in New School who is! please write a letter {in this sense} you have found somebody! Leo.Strauss Ki3-0186 re {to}:|I know that you are well acquainted with Baeck (Details anzeigen) and his work. If you feel that he is worthy of an honory degree from the University, I would ask you to write a letter to Dr. Ernest Colwell (Details anzeigen) to that effect. The matter rests altogether with you.

You will, of course, have no idea who I am, although when you were at the University of Chicago (Details anzeigen) I learned to know you, unfortunately, only casually. I hope you will be able to agree with us in this matter.

Thanking you for anything you might feel you want to do, I remain

Cordially yours,

George Fox (Details anzeigen)
