Dear Paul Tillich,

Please forgive this bad typing job: I just got out of the hospital and my hands don't follow the instructions of my brain.

There seems to be a chance that THE NATION may need a motion picture reviewer. Now, you know my background pretty thoroughly but I'm inclined to think it a good idea to give you some details so you will be able to talk to Dr. Niebuhr.

I have written two books on the movies: one published in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1938 under the title POCKET GUIDE TO THE MOVIES, and one for Row, Peterson & Co, Evanstown [sic!] , Ill., which will be published soon. Title: THE MOVIES. This is a book on motion pictures appreciation for high schools.

For two years I lectured at the university [sic!] of Basel on the technique, the history and appreciation of films. I wrote articles for THEATRE ARTS, THE NATION and other magazines, all dealing with movies, and for one year I was regular motion picture editor of DECISION.

I also gave several lectures at the Film Library of the Museum of Modern Art. (Iris Barry, director).

As far as my other writing and editing activities are concerned, I think the enclosed curriculum will tell you the most important facts. Most of it you know anyhow. I gave up the job of book editor of TOMORROW because it was a fulltime job, and what with my novel, I could manage only a half time position.

Perhaps I could talk with Mrs. Kirchwey one of these days, if it can be arranged without too much trouble. I'd be extremely grateful to you. Let me add that Bosley Crowther, motion picture editor of THE TIMES, and Iris Barry of the Film Library can be used as references. And thanks a lot. I hope your hand will be allright soon.
