- Maritain, Jacques (18.11.1882 Paris – 28.4.1973 Toulouse) war ein französischer katholischer Philosoph, der Thomas von Aquin neu interpretierte und eine eigene thomistische Philosophie entwickelte. Er konvertierte 1906 zum Katholizismus, lehrte an führenden Universitäten in Europa und Nordamerika und war französischer Botschafter beim Vatikan. In über 50 Schriften verband er Aristotelismus und Thomismus mit modernen Ansätzen und betonte die Würde der Person, die Bedeutung des Naturrechts und die Notwendigkeit gemeinsamer Institutionen über Glaubensgrenzen hinweg.
