Short biography

Schleiermacher, Friedrich Daniel Ernst (21.11.1768 Breslau – 12.2.1834 Berlin) war evangelischer Theologe, Philosoph und Pädagoge. Er übersetzte Platon, begründete die moderne Hermeneutik und gilt als Kirchenvater des 19. Jahrhunderts. In »Über die Religion« (1799) definierte er Religion als »Sinn und Geschmack fürs Unendliche«, in der »Glaubenslehre« (1821/22) als »Gefühl absoluter Abhängigkeit«. Er vermittelte zwischen Rationalismus, Romantik und Erweckungsbewegung.
