Short biography

Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher (21. November 1768 – 12. Februar 1834) war ein evangelischer Theologe, Philosoph und Pädagoge. Er übertrug Platon ins Deutsche, schuf die Grundlagen der modernen Hermeneutik und gilt als Kirchenvater des 19. Jahrhunderts. In seiner Schrift Über die Religion von 1799 bestimmte er Religion als Sinn und Geschmack fürs Unendliche, in der Glaubenslehre von 1821/22 als Gefühl schlechthinniger Abhängigkeit. Sein Denken vermittelte zwischen Rationalismus, Romantik und Erweckungsbewegung.
