Dear Paulus:

Thanks for your note of November 24.1 When I spoke to Hannah I forgot that we had been informed through your secretary about the CARE packages. I apologize for asking again.

I am sad to report that we intend to go off to the country immediately after Christmas. We will not be here to see you on December 26–28. I could put you up in the little guest room of Pierson College but no meals will be served in the college at that time. You would have no trouble, however, about picking up breakfast just around the corner at the drug store. Let me know if you intend to stay in Pierson.

I would be much interested to hear what you find out about guest professorships in Germany. I have informed the Rector of the University of Frankfurt that I shall not be able to go there for some time to come. Apparently he got to assist in carrying out a program of guest professorships. It is not only a question of transportation but also of food and living quarters once one gets there. The Germans cannot provide either.
