- Georges Rouault (27. Mai 1871 – 13. Februar 1958) war ein aus der Pariser Glasmalerei stammender Maler und Graphiker, der nach dem Studium bei Gustave Moreau und als Mitbegründer des „Salon d’Automne“ stilprägend Symbolismus, kräftige Farbfeld-Temperamalerei und schwarze Konturen mit mystischem Katholizismus verband. Sein Hauptwerk, der Radierzyklus Miserere (1912–27), stellt soziales Elend und biblische Erlösung gegenüber, während Clowns, Prostituierte und Richterfiguren in hieratischer Formgebung das Leiden des modernen Menschen thematisieren und ihm posthum kirchliche Anerkennung einbrachten (u. a. Fenster für Notre-Dame-de-Toute-Grâce, Assy).
