                     <p>Rimbaud, Arthur (20.10.1854 Charleville – 10.11.1891 Marseille) war ein französischer Dichter. Schon als Jugendlicher trat er mit Gedichten hervor, sein erstes erschien 1870 im Alter von 15 Jahren. Mit Werken wie Une saison en enfer und Illuminations galt er früh als Erneuerer der französischen Lyrik. 1875 gab er das Schreiben auf und führte ein ruheloses Leben als Reisender und Händler in Ägypten, Zypern, Aden und v. a. in Harär (Äthiopien), wo er mit Kaffee, Elfenbein und Waffen handelte und Sprachen wie Arabisch und Amharisch erlernte. 1891 kehrte er schwer krank nach Frankreich zurück und starb mit 37 Jahren an Krebs.</p>
