               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_8" n="N007"/>be questionable wether there is a problem at all. Is not reli-
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_9" n="N008"/>gion simply a part of the general culture and de-
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_10" n="N009"/>pendent on the history of a particular culture? Many scho-
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_11" n="N010"/>lars, especially those who deal with primitive cultures would
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_12" n="N011"/>give an affirmative answer. But would somebody do so who
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_13" n="N012"/>deals with Roman or Indian or German or Japanese history?
               <lb facs="#facs_2_tr_1_tl_14" n="N013"/>Are the conflicts between religion and culture not a ma-

               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_2" n="N003"/>and this means that | {there must be something special about}
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_3" n="N004"/>{<rs type="keyword" ref="#Religion">religion</rs> that it can [...]} | religion has a foundation above
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_4" n="N005"/>a given <rs type="keyword" ref="#Culture">culture</rs> and is able to attack {or} to trans-
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_7" n="N006"/>form {a culture} {it} or to destroy it. As in culture a religion may be almost eradicated. Although both, religion and culture
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_9" n="N007"/>{appear} {in man's spirit} are functions of the human <rs type="keyword" ref="#Spirit">spirit</rs>, they can fall ino dead-
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_10" n="N008"/>ly enmity, trying to subject and enslave each other. –
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_11" n="N009"/>But the fact that they can fight {each other} shows also
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_14" n="N010"/>that {you} they cannot be separated {them} from each other {completely. If you one}
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_16" n="N011"/>{They belong to each other} Neither is possible without the other and, therefore, you cannot end
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_17" n="N012"/>their wars by putting each of them on a different island.
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_18" n="N013"/>This situation leads to some of the most difficult pro-
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_19" n="N014"/>blems of the philosophy of religion and of the philosophy of
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_22" n="N015"/>culture. {But} And it leads not only to theoretical [...], but {even more im-}
               <lb facs="#facs_3_tr_1_tl_25" n="N016"/>{portant}, also to most serious and {dangerous} {profound} difficult practical problems.
