Giotto di Bondone

Giotto di Bondone (um 1267 – 8. Januar 1337) war ein italienischer Maler und Wegbereiter einer naturnahen Bildsprache. Nach seiner Ausbildung wirkte er in mehreren italienischen Städten und schuf mit den Fresken der Arenakapelle in Padua ein Hauptwerk der frühen Renaissance. Seine Kunst zeichnet sich durch räumliche Darstellung, plastische Figuren und erzählerische Klarheit aus. Neben der Malerei war er auch architektonisch tätig, etwa beim Campanile des Florentiner Doms.
