demonic powers which USE these demons then, to control the nation. The danger of nationalism as a substitute religion on the basis of the complete separation of church and state, would be something about which I would have spoken if you had not asked the question now. QN: If the main Protestant principle is the emphasis on the individual, should not religious education emphasize the cultivation of the individual to use his own individual set of symbols rather than the traditional set? PT: Because no individual can create b. Symbols are a matter of the collective unconscious. Same QN: But the individual can find symbols. PT: No. He cannot, if they are not given to him. You can never find symbols except in the encounter with others, in which [encounter] you only become a REAL individual. So be very careful about this; EVEN PROTESTANTISM cannot live on the basis of individualism! But that is another question.–
