I hope you agree with the enclosed letter.Vermutlich ist eine Vorlage für den Brief von Paul Tillich an Elined Prys-Kotschnig vom 22. April 1946 gemeint. I had a hard time to write it. Please, consider carefully whether it is all right. I have been wondering whether you might mention that you have my Education and Experience Record (I enclose a copy of it, too) from which you got all the pertinent information. However, if you feel that you should mention this, the letter would have to be rewritten, I am afraid. Well, you know best how to handle this wisely. Please, keep in mind that, since I shall work in Philadelphia in a group where Mrs. K. is well known and where she certainly has quite an influence, this letter is important, it will set the stage for me.

I called your office this morning for I thought I would come personally and bring the letter for you to sign it. Unfortunately you are not in your office today, so I send it all by mail. In case you should decide to change the letter in some way or other, would you kindly call me tomorrow morning in my office, early enough, so that I may be able to come to you between 12 and 1 p.m. Thank you ever so much for this great help.

I have read your sermon – breathlessly. Would it be possible to get a few more copies? I would be very grateful.

Paul Tillich (20. August 1886 – 22. Oktober 1965) war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe und Religionsphilosoph. Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Feldprediger im Ersten Weltkrieg lehrte er an verschiedenen Universitäten in Deutschland, bis er 1933 emigrieren musste und in den USA wirkte, unter anderem in New York, Harvard und Chicago. Tillich entwickelte eine Theologie der Kultur und verstand Religion als das „was uns unbedingt angeht“. In seiner „Systematic Theology“ formulierte er die Methode der Korrelation und deutete Gott als „Macht des Seins“. Seine Arbeiten verbinden Theologie, Philosophie und Existenzdenken und hatten großen Einfluss auf das religiöse Denken der Moderne.
