As I told yesterday evening, we are beginning now with the short-wave broadcasting to Germany, and we shall have every sunday morning from 9:45 to 10:00 fifteen minutes for Protestant News.

As I told you some time ago, we have the following idea: the Protestant listeners in Germany must get the impression that this is not only a military war or a war for power politics, but that the religious leaders all over the world are fighting Hitler for spiritual reasons, and that they are advocating a decent peace after the over-throwing of Hitler. The best way to communicate with the German listeners is not the straight appeal but the information about what happens abroad. Therefore, the idea of sending news and not speeches. It is not necessary to have a lot of news for every broadcast. If you can take three events for instance, a Protestant Congress somewhere in the world and the new primate of the British High Church and perhaps an interesting article in a Protestant Magazine and if you add some comments, that would be a perfect broadcast.

The first Protestant News will go on the air Sunday, March 29th. I should like to have the script five or six days earlier for passing the censorship. You don't need speaking it yourself, we have a speaker. If you cannot organize the Protestant News for the first date, I propose that you begin with a speech, for instance, with a Protestant comment on the treatment of the Jews in Germany. Of course, I do not expect in this something for the Jews; I expect something for the Protestants.

Adolf Hitler (20. April 1889, Braunau am Inn – 30. April 1945, Berlin) war Vorsitzender der NSDAP, seit 1933 Reichskanzler und ab 1934 als „Führer“ diktatorischer Staats- und Regierungschef des Deutschen Reiches. Er entfesselte 1939 mit dem Überfall auf Polen den Zweiten Weltkrieg, der über 70 Millionen Menschen das Leben kostete, und trug die Hauptverantwortung für den Holocaust an den europäischen Juden. Als oberster Befehlshaber der Wehrmacht führte er eine totalitäre Herrschaft, die Terror, Propaganda und aggressive Expansion vereinte und große Teile Europas verwüstete. Beim Zusammenbruch des „Dritten Reiches“ beging Hitler am 30. April 1945 in Berlin Suizid; eine Grabstätte gibt es nicht.

Paul Tillich (20. August 1886 – 22. Oktober 1965) war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe und Religionsphilosoph. Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Feldprediger im Ersten Weltkrieg lehrte er an verschiedenen Universitäten in Deutschland, bis er 1933 emigrieren musste und in den USA wirkte, unter anderem in New York, Harvard und Chicago. Tillich entwickelte eine Theologie der Kultur und verstand Religion als das „was uns unbedingt angeht“. In seiner „Systematic Theology“ formulierte er die Methode der Korrelation und deutete Gott als „Macht des Seins“. Seine Arbeiten verbinden Theologie, Philosophie und Existenzdenken und hatten großen Einfluss auf das religiöse Denken der Moderne.
