Thank you for your letterliegt nicht vor of November 7th. concerning Mr. Rudolph M. Morris.

I have known Mr. R. Morris since 1926 when I was Professor at the Philosophical Faculty of the Technical Academy in Dresden (Germany) In these years he was wrestling with the problem of his remaining a successful businessman or going the hard road of scholarly life. He decided for the latter, went as an exiled to Southern France and continued in this direction. At the same time he was so impressed by the recent movement in French Catholicism that he converted to Catholicism and became aquainted with many leading Catholics. I always was in touch with him and tried to help while he was in France as much as I could which was of course very little.

Mr. Morris has proved that he takes the religious and philosophical problems very seriously. His writings show that he is able to deal with them productively and with a great amount of intellectual education and precise thinking.

His wife whom I know as long as himself is a very clever and energetic personality, able to give psychological guidance to people.

Paul Tillich (20. August 1886 – 22. Oktober 1965) war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe und Religionsphilosoph. Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Feldprediger im Ersten Weltkrieg lehrte er an verschiedenen Universitäten in Deutschland, bis er 1933 emigrieren musste und in den USA wirkte, unter anderem in New York, Harvard und Chicago. Tillich entwickelte eine Theologie der Kultur und verstand Religion als das „was uns unbedingt angeht“. In seiner „Systematic Theology“ formulierte er die Methode der Korrelation und deutete Gott als „Macht des Seins“. Seine Arbeiten verbinden Theologie, Philosophie und Existenzdenken und hatten großen Einfluss auf das religiöse Denken der Moderne.
