I feel extremely guilty that I did not answer your very kind letter from Dez. 1. earlier. There were two reasons for that. First because I did not want to answer without a rather large explanation of my ideas concerning the idea of God and that I did not find any time for doing so in the last two months, because I to prepare the publication of an own book of mine. Second because the difficulty of writing in Englisch, which hampers me not so much in lecturing as in the attempts to express as subtlime ideas as are implied in your proposed ¿¿¿. Now I want to tell you that I shall be in Cambridge about 4 or 5 days between the 11th and the 16th of February. In these days I think we should have a great discussion concerning our common problems. I hope you will be able to give this time, and most of all, I hope you pardon me for the terrible delay of my answer. It occured as it usually does: ¿¿¿ I did not want to give a short answer I did not answer at all. In every case i will try to call you as soon as I have arrived in Boston.

Paul Tillich (20. August 1886 – 22. Oktober 1965) war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe und Religionsphilosoph. Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Feldprediger im Ersten Weltkrieg lehrte er an verschiedenen Universitäten in Deutschland, bis er 1933 emigrieren musste und in den USA wirkte, unter anderem in New York, Harvard und Chicago. Tillich entwickelte eine Theologie der Kultur und verstand Religion als das „was uns unbedingt angeht“. In seiner „Systematic Theology“ formulierte er die Methode der Korrelation und deutete Gott als „Macht des Seins“. Seine Arbeiten verbinden Theologie, Philosophie und Existenzdenken und hatten großen Einfluss auf das religiöse Denken der Moderne.
